The Perfect T-Shirt Souvenir from Kauai

The Perfect T-Shirt Souvenir from Kauai

When visiting the island of Hawaii, it’s always fun to get locally made souvenirs to commemorate your trip. Our limited-edition t-shirts are sustainable, stylish, and unbelievably soft, making for great gifts. But let’s be honest, how often do you buy something on vacation and never wear it again? We wanted to solve this dilemma by offering high quality shirts that you will be happy to wear any day.

Fashion in Hawaii doesn’t stop at Aloha shirts. While those are great for certain occasions, we wanted to offer laid-back tees that reflect the creative spirit of Kauai. That’s why we have collaborated with three incredibly talented artists to create a collection of natural fiber t-shirts with island-inspired designs.

We source our blank tee’s from Jung Maven. They are an awesome brand. Their founder Robert has been doing advocacy work to support environmental causes since the early 90s. Their tee’s are buttery soft, and make for an excellent canvas. From there, we collaborate with artists to create custom designs, and get them screen printed here on Kauai.

Whether you’re a visitor looking for a meaningful keepsake or a local in search of your new favorite tee, you’ll love what we’ve created. Each design tells a story, inspired by the beauty and culture of the islands, and printed on high-quality, natural fiber tees made to last.

The Creative Minds Behind the Designs

Michelle Dick

Michelle Dick was a beloved Kauai-based artist who dedicated over 20 years to creating original, hand-etched artwork that beautifully captured the Hawaiian spirit. Her intricate island-inspired designs remain a favorite for those who cherish the beauty and culture of Hawaii.

Her process was both meticulous and unique. Each piece began as a white clay board, which she covered with a veil of black ink. She carefully scratched out every detail using a fine-point tool, demonstrating incredible skill and precision. An avid shell collector, Michelle added a special touch to her work by securing a seashell on the back, serving as a hook for a wall display.

Michelle is also responsible for the 'Hunter Gatherer' sign that welcomes visitors to our shop, a lasting testament to her artistry.

Sadly, Michelle passed away last January, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, joy, and community. We are honored to continue sharing her work by reproducing her beautiful designs on our T-shirts. As a tribute to her and in support of her family, we are donating a portion of the proceeds from these T-shirts to them, ensuring that her artistry and spirit continue to be celebrated.

Kinsley H. Designs

Kinsley is a designer with over eight years of experience working with brands across the United States. She has a nomadic heart, and you can often find her exploring the desert or mountains! Kinsley draws inspiration from the landscapes around her. Her aesthetic is hand-drawn and nature-inspired, with influences from the West, desert, and coastal areas.

Kinsely has lived in China, Australia, California, and Canada in a van and has traveled to over 25 countries! When she’s not creating, you’ll likely find her hiking, camping, or fly fishing. We love her style, and she’s created a couple of very popular T-shirt designs - the Bandana Tee and Island Living T-Shirt.

Bevy and Brine

Bevy & Brine was founded by Brooke, an artist from Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. She has been doing art professionally for over fifteen years and has worked with brands such as Toms, Element Skateboards, and Trader Joe's.

In 2016, she began focusing her energy on independent work for small businesses and clients. During this period, she also taught nature art classes and sold her pieces in her van to coastal communities. Eventually, Bevy and Brine's design studio was born. She currently works with a small team on the island of Kauai, completing many design projects.

She has collaborated with a variety of local businesses, such as Hanalei Market, Hanalei Trader, Keala Farm, and others. Of course, she's designed for Trilogy and Hunter Gatherer as well! Brooke is very talented and ambitious, we love supporting her by carrying her designs at the shop.

Why We Chose Jung Maven T-Shirts

When deciding what base we wanted to use for our t-shirt collection, we knew it had to be good! We weren't going to buy the cheapest T-shirt available and put our logo on it. At Hunter Gatherer, we pride ourselves on being mindful, practicing conscious consumerism, and making a positive impact.

We chose Jung Maven because its values resonate with ours. The company's story started in the early 1990s when founder Robert Jungmann led advocacy campaigns focused on environmental issues, mainly deforestation. He was ahead of the curve in promoting hemp as a sustainable material.

From then on, his vision was to create fashionable, high-quality hemp clothing. Starting, he had only one account: his friend's surf shop in Central America. Now, in 2025, Jung Maven has grown into a well-respected brand in the sustainable fashion community.

Jung Maven is more than just a brand with great values. They use top-quality materials, too. Their lightweight T-shirts are perfect for island life, and the softness and comfort will make you want to wear them every day. The combination of sustainability and comfort makes these t-shirts unbeatable.

The Importance of Sustainable Clothing

It goes without saying, but we care a lot about the environment here! I mean, we live in one of the most beautiful places in the world and we’d like to preserve it. We very much believe in the interconnectedness of all beings and hope for a day where the world can be in harmony.

One person cannot change the world, but if we all take small actions each day we can make waves in a positive direction. That’s why we believe in supporting artists, sourcing from ethical brands, and creating products we can be proud of.

The fashion industry is the second biggest polluter in the world behind oil. It contributes significantly to global pollution, including high carbon emissions, water waste, and toxic chemical runoff.

There are entire beaches in parts of SouthEast Asia and the Caribbean covered in used garments. Due to the low quality products and ever changing trends within mainstream fashion, there are approximately 92 million tons of textile waste produced each year.

At the end of the day, every little effort helps when it comes to protecting our planet. By supporting ethical brands and making sustainability a priority, we can all be part of creating a more sustainable world.

Why T-Shirts Make for an Excellent Gift

T-Shirts are one of those gifts that everybody loves to receive. Whether it’s worn on a daily basis, to the gym, or your favorite night time tee, there’s always room for one more. These uni-sex designs are fun and beachy, making them versatile and loved by many. Unlike novelty gifts, these tee’s will actually get used!  Plus, considering you’re supporting small artists and a sustainable manufacturer, you can feel extra good about this purchase.
