In 1969 Howard Taylor, brother of Elizabeth, bailed out thirteen young Mainlanders jailed for vagrancy and welcomed them to camp on his Kauai land. From that act grew Taylor Camp, a barefoot, free-spirited village of treehouses, surfers, hippies, and vets seeking peace. Though it was burned down in 1977, photos and stories keep alive the memory of a community that chose nature, freedom, and simple living.
